I cant afford a therapist, so I have all of you.

Well, Friday night I had the chance to play the tubs. There is a younger Airman in the shop that plays in a couple of local metal bands. He called and asked if I wanted to jam. We met at 10:00pm at the jam pad. After some small talk with a homeless guy (I've posted before about the characters that are found over by my jam pad which is in the old part of town), we went up to my place and cranked for about an hour. I've been sick as a dog for over a week, so I couldn't play any longer than an hour.

It was great fun... However I got got an ego check too. As we were making small talk outside by the cars, he jokingly made a comment that I need to listen to some "newer" music. I asked him what he meant, and he replied, "Your drumming has 80's hair metal all over it". LOL! I knew exactly what he was getting at, because about halfway into our jam session it occurred to me that my technique wasn't fitting a lot of the riffs he was playing.

So he gave me a couple of CD's to listen to; Sevendust and Killswitch Engaged. Man, the drums in this new music is so different than the bombastic "2 & 4" beats of my Motley Crue, KISS, 80's technique. This new stuff is very fast and choked double down beats with a slow tempo on the hi hats. For all you non drummers, it's a far cry from what I'm used to.

Ok enough on that...I want to send a shout out to all of "the regulars" who stop by. It re-affirms my belief in humanity when total strangers take time out of their lives to offer encouragement and ask about my well being when I haven't posted in awhile (thanks Wendy). I also enjoy being let into the lives of these same people. Phil, Mom, Wendy, Dave, Jen, Addict, Pnut, Mr. Schprock (Forgive me if I left anyone out) I look forward to getting home every day and seeing how your lives are going. I hope to continue this blogging relationship with all of you for a good long time.

Well, I live on a cul de sac where everyone keeps a well manicured lawn, and once again I seem to be the last to conform (it's my effort at being a rebel), so I must go take care of at least the front yard and shrubs. I also spent 75 bucks on accent lighting that I should try to install today.
Peace

Lawn stuff. Yep. We hadn't been in our new house 2 weeks when some dipwad called codes on us because the grass in the front yard was over 4 inches tall...from the PREVIOUS owner. I guess the neighbors didn't care about the old carpet, drywall, and tile in the front yard from the remodel...just the friggen grass.

Needless to say, my Hubby has the lawn looking awesome...but I feel like putting a sign in the front saying: "Yeah, the lawn is great, but not because YOU called codes!"

Idiots. Hey, I hope you have a great day, and good luck with the new type of drumming. :)

Hey listen to some Thrice and Rise Against too. Thats the kind of drumming we do here in my house. Its wicked awesome. I taught jr high troll~ing a C chord and a G chord on the guitar. Now he is doing the "everything is gay" song. But hey, at least he is practicing the chords. So tell me Paul, what IS B=1/3pi n squared s??? OH yeah...S=3B/pi n squared of course, silly me....AKKKKKKK..ok but back to Thrice, they are seriously one of my favorite bands....listen and learn...lol gosh all you need, ANOTHER woman telling you what to do eh???

Ah yes, yard work. I do enjoy it, just at my own pace however...I think you'll dig this guy's drum
movie.

Same problem with me dude...My townhouse complex requires us to maintain our yard and make it look pretty and stuff. But with my postage stamp sized back yard my girlfriend can cut the grass with scissors. Fortunatly for me she actually digs it. Love your blogs and happy drumming.

We must be sharing the same cold. I'm just getting over my week long battle as well.

Everything in music has changed. Drums, guitar, the mad thumping bass of yesteryear. I'm glad you're willing to roll with it!

Ah the lawn can wait, keep pounding those drums. BTW I still love the 80s drum beats. Hang in there dude, you will rock at the new stuff too!

I think that's awesome! Be true to your roots, man! A kid with whom I attended lower school with is now the frontman for a G'N'R cover band. That kid is my hero!!!

Face it, your getting old. As for the 80's hair band music. Back in 2001 I got watching VH1's top 100 hair bands of all time and I never realized how much of a hair band fan I was ... Go Power Ballads.

Live it, love it... the 80's only lasted ten years.
