I'm very sad...

Yesterday evening I got a phone call from a friends sister down in Dallas telling me that my friend had passed away... I have not felt ok since.

My friend Steve was only 35. We met when I arrived here at Sheppard AFB back in 98' to be a tech training instructor, teaching young troops our craft of heating and AC. Steve had gotten here a year or so before me and had established himself as a top notch instructor.

The students responded to him because he was very laid back and wasnt the typical instructor with a drill sergent attitude. I sat in on several of his classes while I was getting my feet wet on how to present information without being a lecturing robot.

I was 5 yrs older and had 7 yrs longer in service but we were the same rank. This was a testament to his knowledge. We had several things in common. We were married we had two kids about the same age and we loved to drink. We raised a lot of hell in this rooty poot town for a few years.

When the time came for Steve to re-enlist, he chose to get out. He got hired by a fortune 100 AC company and worked out of their Dallas office. He had recently gotten a promotion and was doing well.

We've kept in contact over the last several years and his ex wife and kids are even still here in WF. His son was over here a month ago with my kids. I regret that I didnt take him up on an offer for me to come down to his place in Dallas and visit.

His sister said she left him at 2 am Sunday morning and he was fine...she said he was eating Oreo's when she left. Apparently he fell asleep on the couch and that where his girlfriend found him when she woke up Sunday morning.

I'm very sad over the loss of my friend. I know some people who read my Blog knew Steve. I've tried to email all the instructors who were at the schoolhouse with us.

God speed brother...
Paul
