Man...I dunno....

So my military job will change the week after next. Awhile back I blogged about being asked if I was interested in becoming our Unit Deployment Manager. I got the word today that it will happen.

I have been very unhappy in a shop environment for quite some time and had tried to "stuff" my feelings. There are 40 military and 15 civilians in my shop. I run a crew of 8, 1 civilin and the rest military. My civilian and a couple of young Airmen are really great at taking care of business. However, as a whole, our enitre shop is not on the same page. When you have 55 people and only half are focused and caring, as a whole, the shop suffers.

I've been in this shop for 3 years. I've got 18.5 years in the USAF. I'm old and ver set in my ways. I am finding it very hard to accept the "new" Air Force. A few years ago, the AF promotion rate was so fast that troops could put on sergeant efore 4 yrs. This was good for recruitment, but now the low level supervisors never had the chance to be "groomed" into their positions. Now those sergeants are expected to be incharge of young Airmen. For the most part they are not ready to handle the youth of today. These new Airmen are quite the handfull.

Anyway...enough whining. I'm looking forward to my new duties and the much smaller, more defined tasks.
