Hurricane Update Wednesday

My sister-in-law called about an hour ago to tell my wife their mom and dad are both ok. I know that was a load off of my wife. Her demeanor has changed over the last couple of days. I'm hoping that the news her mom and dad are ok will help matters. We both still have relatives who we don't know the status of, but the core of our family is ok. I hope we keep getting good news.

Shit. The 4yr old has gotten into my wife's fingernail polish and it is all over the rug in our vanity room. Red polish on beige carpet. I love my kids but I swear to God you cant have a damn thing that remains nice for any duration. I just wore his butt out and my hand hurts. We've warned him several times about getting into my wife's makeup. I swear I don't know what that boy's fascination is with his moms stuff.

My wife has taken over trying to get the carpet clean. We only had a little bit of carpet spot cleaner left. My wife just informed me that she thinks she got it all to come out. I'm just livid over the whole deal. About a year ago we had only been in the house for a couple of months and the two older kids were out of school for some reason. Well, I get a call at work from my oldest son who was frantic. He said "Dad there is water all down the hallway running out of the bathroom". So I haul ass home (12 miles) from work. When I turn the corner onto my street, I see water running down my driveway....out of my front door and down my driveway. I come inside and there is an inch of water in half my house.

Apparently one of the kids (each blames the other) had used a half a roll of toilet paper to wipe their butt. They flushed the toilet and as it stopped up, it just so happened that the flapper got stuck in the open position. The water kept frunning, trying to fill the tank.

So ruined laminate wood flooring and carpets came to $6,500 dollars. My deductible was $1,200. SOOOO, I kind of spazz out when it comes to my new floors and carpets.

Whew, that whole story was kind of theraputic. I wanted to say thanks to everyone who's been checking in on a regular basis. I'll continue to post information.

Right now I'm still trying to decide on if it's worth it to try and drive down to the coast with food and water this weekend. I dont really want to, but I feel obligated to. I just know that while I'm sitting here in my AC whining to all of you about life, there are members of my family all up and down the Ms coast with no comforts at all.
Thanks again to everyone for checking in....

Paul, You sound so much like the ETK with the house, and the kids, and the mess....Im just a lot more easy going about stuff like that I guess. It can be cleaned up. I dont know....anyhow
If you want my personal opinion, I wouldnt go up now. EVERYONE is helping NOW...in a few weeks or a month, people will tire of "helping" and they will still NEED help and THEN your help would be more appriciated....just my 2 cents, not worth too much with OUR gas going up to 2.99 today also, that will get me to the mailbox and not even home...
Glad your wife had good news. Must have been a horrible couple of days...

Paul, I hate to say this and I am only half joking...they may DEPLOY you to the gulf STATES. With all the violence and looting and anarchy from all those ungrateful gangbangers...well, who knows. New Orleans might be the new Iraq.

Sorry about your carpet. We renovated this house when we bought it last year and champagne carpet seeeemed like a good idea. I spend half my life cleaning up stains. Yep, it sucks.

I can relate with the resignation of all hope of keeping carpet clean. I offer you my dog Wilson and his irritable bowel syndrome as proof of this.

LOL,
I forgot about your post on this subject Dave. That's right, I suppose it could always be worse. Thanks for the reminder.
